Tim has publicly released the repacker, for anyone to use.
After using the extractor simply upload it using that link. Download the OBJ when the upload is finished. You'll have to edit the name to its original number sequence.

HOW TO USE THE EXTRACTOR: http://dev.savethen.org/readobj.php
Its very simple, there is a gigantic OBJ list on the page USE THAT INSTEAD OF UPLOADING RANDOM SHIT. CTRL + F is your friend(Be kind to poor Tim's bandwidth). Find the OBJ you want here --> http://acemod.highbb.com/general-discussion-f1/list-of-obj-s-t24.htm and then just ctrl + f the file name on the extractor page, download the ZIP. Unzip and edit the picture, rezip it.

What format should the Grafik have to get after repack a working.obj file? BMP, PNG, Jpg - tif? What else is important to note?

Most of the original files in the RES EFF folder are packed as a TGA(this format can be opened in Gimp), but they can be repacked as PNG's. In fact its preferred to repack them as PNG files since they take up less space and lag less.

Can be repacked as PNG, JPG, BMP, GIF, TGA, pretty much whatever (though I do not believe animated GIFs will work, and haven't tried BMPs or GIFs yet).

any files that have any transparency need to be in a format that supports it.
and no animated Gifs will not work as the game converts them to DirectDraw Surface (DDS)
still not sure why they haven't configured DirectX to use the GPU more
even more so since GPU's are designed to do floating point math WAY better than CPUs

YAY 1.2 Tflop GPU that i hardly ever use Q.Q

If this is about changing the gears themselves, you can't. If you mean changing the skills or anything else, I use photoshop. Pretty much anything like photoshop or gimp (i think) will work.

I was jw if when I edit a pic of a file should I leave the background black, or should I make it transparent b4 I ask some1 to repack it, cuz I noticed that the 1s I've DLd off the obj extractor site had black backgrounds. TIA
